    96 Air Conditioning

    I have a problem with the Air Conditioning in my 96 Coupe. When you turn on the A/C it blows out the floor and top dash (Defroster) outlets instead of the outlets facing the passengers. I have looked high and low for anything written on this subject and have not found anything (short of taking it to the dealer). The only thing I can come up with is that one of the diverters is stuck and the selonoid that controls it is not working. Does anyone have any suggestions before I take the whole dash apart or take it to the dealer. Thanks in advance for the replies.

      My GUESS would be that it's a problem with the electronic A/C controller. This is the dash-mounted unit with the "buttons" for setting and the LCD temp readout. This is a common problem area. However, the only way that you are going to properly diagnose this problem is using the factory service manual. As I've mentioned many times before, you cannot do any repairs or serious maintenance on a Corvette, especially a C4 or newer, without having the manual.

          Jeff the 96 factory service manual is a good investment if you have the desire to do your own maint/repair on your 96 or learn more about your car. To give you an idea how much information is in the 96 service manual it comes in two books, one for the engine and drive train and a thicker book for the rest of the 96. Both books weigh about 7 1/2 pounds. In comparison the 85 Corvette service manual only weighs 3 1/2 pounds weighed in the cardboard shipping box I leave it in for protection. A 1970 service manual weighs about 2 pounds. Google Gordon Killerbrew and he may save you a lot of time with help over the phone. He used to be employed at the Corvette plant. You may not know it, but the Corvette plant used to have a free service where you could call and talk to Gordon or others concerning Corvette problems of cars built there. He did have tech schooling at his house, it will be on his web page.
