C3 big block alternator mounting

Hi (generic) guys: I have ANOTHER question. The upper brace (strap) from the front of my alternator looks like it goes to the same bolt that mounts the upper alternator bracket to the head. I saw another c3 big block (1970) no A/C that mounted the same way. My cars is A/C if it matters. My AIM shows that the brace should mount to a stud that also mounts the water pump. Now I am not about to commit the sacrilege (sp?) of doubting the AIM, but...Is there any reason to believe i am reading it incorrectly? Does the front strap actually mount to the head?

Joe,

A picture is worth...........

The outer front bracket attaches to a stud from the water pump. The inner front bracket goes to the head along with the rear bracket.

It sure does Tom. Thanks. Somehow, my brackets are wrong, since the one that goes to the water pump (on mine) does not have the correct radius to pass the short strap...Thanks again...regards...joe
