First of all....When I replaced the quadrajet carb on my '56 with the correct 2366SA carb, I can't get the P/G to kick down. I am hoping that it is the wrong kickdown rod, but, we bent it to every dimension possible and still it won't kick down. A repop kick down rod is about $150.00 so I don't want to buy one unless I absolutely have too. I guess I could try it and if it didn't work, get a refund. Any suggestions? Also, any recommendations as to an aftermarket overflow tank for the radiator? Thanks.

Re: C1 Kickdown and Cool Off!!!!!
Hookup a manual kickdown rod that you can activate by hand, and use that to test the kickdown feature. If it won't work manualy activating the rod when applying full throttle, the problem is in the trans, not the linkage.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C1 Kickdown and Cool Off!!!!!
OK! You have two rods going to the Carb ,
I.gas rod
2.trans kick down
Disconnect the trans rod from the Carb -pull the gas rod> back like a full throttle , pull the trans rod forward all the way, adjust it so that the trans rod just goes into the Carb linkage. You now have set the trans kick down shift. If the trans rod is short you have the wrong rod- Top

Steve... In my (57) experience, I'd fill the rad..
...then run it. Normal thermal expansion would cause the rad to puke coolant for a while. Then it would eventually reach a "happy" level, with no further issues. I finally learned to just leave it at that and had no problems. In essence, the rad was acting as the expansion tank... If I kept trying to "top it off", my efforts would end up on ground... Never had cooling issues with that car. Best, Dennis- Top
