C2 '65 "JD" bolt head mark, intake man.

On my 327/365hp I've got recessed hex. bolts with "JD" and three radiating lines on my intake manifold. The car was built in early Dec., 1964. I can't find a reference for this mark in the NCRS judging guide for year model 1965. Does anyone know if these bolts could be correct? Thanks

Your description sounds correct for a bolt in that position that is being used between aluminum and castiron mating surfaces. It is also similar to a bolts that go between the bell housing and engine. But, I know 68's and 69's much better than 65's so my comments might be worthless. But, the design sounds correct. Others might recognize the head markings "JD". They are not familiar to me for 68 or 69. The 3 slash marks for a grade 5 bolt seem correct though. Take care, Terry

My cars "born on" date is December 5th, 64, 365hp coupe. I bought the car last fall and would characterize it as a massaged original (Duntov in "88"). The intake manifold bolts were black phosphate with "Nat" head mark. I'm guessing these are incorrect. Not trying to hijack this thread David, but since your car was built around the same time as mine, does yours have a 383 bell housing?

        Re: C2 383 Bellhousing

Have a Mar64 FI car; Bellhousing is 3840383 which is the casting number while the part number is 3840381.
Noland Adams book shows some 64 with this exact bellhousing, but you should check his 65 data collection. The Oct 1, 1963 P&A shows the part number as being correct for a 64 and again the Oct 1, 1964 shows the same. However that latter P&A (1964) shows the 65 as a 3858401 (cast 3858403). The 401 was a placed into service in Jan of 1965.

Do a search on the subject back around Jan 3, 07. Had many questions myself.

My info comes from that discussion thanks to knowledgable people.

PS my intake manifold bolts are marked "UR" with the three lines. the U/R are run together.

          '65 L76 # 014xx has "383" bellhousing

... and yes, I realize this is at odds with the '65 TIM&JG.

David, Assuming that 365 use the same intake bolts as the 375 here is what is in my notes from old NCRS JM's. A, TR UR, or FP headmarks. All of the above are grade 5 bolts. Have 3 lines. Plating: Black phosphate, zincad or silver paint overspray. Never saw any JD bolts for intakes but it must be a good bolt. John D.

Sorry Paul, It's a 403, build date of Dec. 2 (convertible). I'm not the orginal owner, therefore can't vouch for it.
