i am begining to suspect the issues i am having with my rebuilt L72 all lay with the carb. it idles great starts right up and revs nice in the bay. take it out for a ride and it seems to break up and has no power. i have been through every part of the car the only thing left is the carb of which i took apart and inspected. i bought it as a rebuilt unit but had issues right off. a bent acc pump arm, a broken high speed cam. one thing i notice is it does not have a flapper valve on the top of the primary bowl. if i decide to replace it is there another carb that is better for this engine if judging is not an issue right now(i will find another 3247 later) i just want to start enjoying this car after all the time and money i have spent. bill

Re: 3247 carb question? at my witts end.
Bill,
Two things:
* I personally have never had good luck with rebuilt carbs. And I have had some of the "greats" rebuild them. On the other hand, I have bought the new Holley reissues and have never had a problem.
* If there is a place to take your car to have the exhaust "read" like at a smog check station, you could find out if the motor is leaning out at the higher RPM's. This would help you sort out whether the problem is fuel or electrical. Running the engine lean can really hurt it.

Buy a new dual feed Holley with electric choke, bolt it on and see if your problem goes away.Bill Clupper #618- Top
