You should be able to find a place - not necessarily in Carlisle but in relatively nearby towns and cities including the Harrisburg area. Many Carlisle hotels require a minimum two-day stay on top of peak season rates. Try Expedia or Priceline and increase the search area out to 25 miles. They're out there. Some are real dumps (especially the motel types) so beware! Hershey PA (as in candy bar amusement park fame) is a bit further away to the east but has lots of newer hotels. It's OK to go a little distant as there are many major highways that all converge on Carlisle. That's until you get to the last two miles up to the fairgrounds which can add up to 45 minutes until you get within parking range.
If possible try to avoid Saturday which is the most crowded. And always pack rain gear. There is something about Carlisle events and getting wet. Most of all bring lots of cash ahd have fun! -

Try hotels in Mechanicsburg, PA. About a 20 minute ride into Carlisle from there. Nice town with a Panera sandwich joint downtown. It is right off the turnpike. You would pass this town on the way to Carlisle if you were flying into Harrisburg. I have stayed there in the past and judging by the vettes in the lot at night, a fair amount of others do also. If you are driving you can also go south to Gettysburg which is a great visit in itself and take the leisurely country back road into Carlisle avoiding the turnpike entirely.Comment
