Re: 65 brake caliper bolts
Jim-----
The special, locking bolts used for 65-E67 caliper half fastening were called PLACE BOLTS. They are no longer available from GM in the sizes required for the caliper halves.
However, the bolts are still manufactured and available. The primary manufacturing source is a company called Aetna Screw (www.aetnascrew.com). The problem is I don't know if they will sell you the bolts in the kind of quantity that you're looking for. That's often a problem with specialty fastners----you can only get them if your willing to purchase 100, 500, or 1,000.
Caliper rebuilders often replace the bolts as a matter of standard practice and the replacement bolts they use are virtually never place bolts. In fact, their product liability insurance might require them to use new bolts. One other thing that you can do is to call the rebuilder and tell them your problem. They'll probably have some of the used bolts around and can send them to you. That will get around their product liablility issue, too, since they aren't the ones that will be installing the used bolts in the calipers. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
