56 hood surround lip attaching hardware

On the fender lip that the hood sits on, the AIM shows a series of rivets that attach it to the fender skirts. In most pictures I have seen of these cars they appear to have phillips screws or nothing at all. Does anyone know what would be correct?

1316 has three round head phillips screws on each side

Same on my '57 - three phillips head screws on each side.
