    1961 Oil canister gasket

I took the canister off and found no
    gasket...new filter has gasket.
I do not want to do this twice.
Should I use the supplied gasket and how tight do I tighten
    canister?

    Thanks Ron

It's there it's just hard to tell because it gets very hard with time. Sometimes you can get it with a pick, But I always just remove the two bolts and it will come right out. I just snug it up good turning as I tighten to make sure its in the groove.

You can be absolutely sure that there's a gasket up there somewhere. If there had not been, you would have had a massive oil leak; you wouldn't have gotten 5 miles after the last oil change.
