Dennis, Would F-C be correct for 63 also? I know about the A with the Circle. I found an F-C on a Tonawanda engine from 63. Thanks, John

John, I really have no idea...

Like you, I've seen the A & F-C & think I may have seen some with no marking. My initial "research" was to buy any 7/8" hex oil pan plug at a swap meet in a box or attached to an oil pan I had no use for. Obviously, I had no idea what the original application was for that plug.
The second part of my reseach indicated that most chassis judges seemed satisfied if they could see the large hex. It would probably take a "mirror on a stick" to check the logo.
Bottom line, with luck, maybe someone else will post that has actually studied this issue in greater depth than I...

Several vendors supplied oil pan plugs...

Known originals include: 'A', 'Circle-A', 'F-C', 'TR' and 'L'. Only the Circle-A is being reproduced...

Based on this thread, I did take the time...

... to check the pan plug on the '62 I'm currently working on. I do trust this is one of the most original C1's I've worked on, but can supply no proof. It's oil pan plug is the circle A variety. When I unscrew it, the oil does drain out, so it must be right...???

                  Hi Jack:

What material is the gasket on a 67 oil drain plug? My apparently original TR drain plug has a bad gasket and I want to replace it with a correct gasket. It appears to have both plastic and copper material, which seems strange.

I've never seen a source for the correct/original oil pan plug gasket, Joe. Originals were very thin plastic (could have originally been thicker before the plug was torqued down) and are almost clear in color. Replacement plastic plug gaskets appear thicker and tend to be either 'frosted' translucent or actually colored.

Bottom line, it doesn't much matter because the plug was installed when the engine was painted, so both the head of the plug and the exposed edges of the gasket should have Chevy orange coverage to some degree...
