I'm installing a new exhaust system on my 56, and I'm not sure if the entire system needs to be welded or not. It's a Corvette Central system and the muffler extention is alreay welded but they supply clampsfor the rest of it. I think it is all supposed to be welded but I want to make sure. Thanks for your help.

to the 55-57 exhaust article by Ken Kayser in his "Countdown to Gold" series, only the muffler inlet pipe was welded. Now, for full "correctness" the clamps should be fine thread, not the more common coarse thread. -

The only welds in the system are the inlet pipe to the muffler, and the outlet pipe to the muffler (made by the muffler supplier - the muffler came with those two pipes already welded to it); all the other joints were clamped.Comment
