    1957 Head castings

    Scenario:
1957 Fuelie, very late production, casting dates on heads are a few weeks prior to assembly and are '57 casting numbers. The heads also have an X58 cast on the outside. If I recall correctly, the X is an indicator of an initial casting run. If so, is it possible to have a very early (initial casting run) '58 head with an X58 on a very late '57 fuelie? In other words, would these heads be judged correct? Thanks.

    Re: 1957 Head castings

Garry, the heads should be okay as long as the cast dates are a couple of weeks or more ahead of the "calculated" build date for your car or before the engine pad stamp assembly date as you state they are. It would behoove you to have a photo handy of the cast date and number of both heads (under the valve covers). Some Judges might ask you to remove one of the valve covers to validate. Looking forward to seeing your '57 at a meet soon. Regards, Gary....
