    TRIM PLATE TESTER

I judged a local show yesterday and several judges had a trim plate device (template) that fit over the existing trim -plate and this was used to help determine the orignality of the trim tag. I was told that Al Grenning was the person to contact to "purchase " one of these. Does anyone have an email or phone number to pass on so I could contact Al about getting one of these items.

I gotta' tell ya'...when I first saw your subject line (and before I knew Al was involved), I had this vision of a "forked stick". LOL!

Click on "View User Profiles" at the top of the Index page, click on Al Grenning 9425 (easy, it's close to the top), send him an email.

TRIM PLATE TESTER. How does it work?

        Joe,

I'm curious about this device. How does it fit over a trim plate without the risk of adding a scratch to the trim plate? Unless I'm 100% convinced the device couldn't in any way whatsoever add even the tiniest blemish or scratch there is no way I would let a judge get it close to my original trim plate.

          Gary, et al (VBG!)

the tool is designed to check the length/shape of the trim tag - reproduction tags are VERY easy to determine with the tool - you really need to talk with AL beyond this

Re: TRIM PLATE TESTER. How does it work?

This is a message I received from Al explaining this aid- " The tool is called a trim tag gauge. It can be used as an aid for the affirmation of midyear trim tags. Confirmation is supported by measuring the width of tags at a particular point. Understand that the device only addresses one aspect of trim tag confirmation. The NCRS Authentication Manual offers the remainder of the insight -- which includes affirmation by photographic aberrations and Chevrolet Engineering Exception codes It best to use all resources together! "
Gary, Relax- Your trim tag isn't harmed/ marred/ touched or disfigured- in any way, shape or form. I watched several judges use it and it is exactly what Al Grenning says just an aid in your judging process for mid year cars. I was interested in aquiring one to help me because I judge alot of midyear cars at various shows. whew! Sorry I brought it up.

              Joe,

When you've seen it used, does the trim plate guage not come into actual contact with the trim plate?

                Re: TRIM PLATE TESTER

Thanks Joe for mentioning this tester. I hadn't heard of it, and it sounds like Al has come up with a very useful tool.
It may not totally confirm a fake trim plate, but is one more tool that can help. Ridge.

These were all available, right next to the white canes!

Exactly Myron---I think too many people are full of themselves and just as many want to be their buddies.

                          Glen,

I have self-censored several posts on this subject. Any thing more would be redundant and simply wasted.

                              Very hard to use

This tool fits over the trim tag, orig trim tags are not square, their cut at a very slight angle, repo tags are square, this tool matches that angle of the orig tags and fits on (around)it perfectly. BUT some orig tags have been bent over the years and you get a false feeling. Get a 15x mag. glass and look at some tags you will be an expert in a couple of hours. The difference is NIGHT and DAY.
