1967 Front Hood Cushions at Rad Support?

My SB 1967 has an aftermarket hand-laid stinger hood on it that I had installed when the car was painted in 2005. The freshly painted SB hood (at that time) is in the basement. I noticed last summer that the sharp edges of the radiator top support is digging into the bottom of the stinger hood somewhat at two points. Not seriously but it is a concern.

In moving about my basement parts inventory today in anticipation of seeing my car in 2-3 weeks after 6 months of winter hibernation I noticed the SB hood has two small, slotted rubber cushions in the front at the point of rad support contact. See pic. Great! The solution to the stinger problem. But I can't find those cushions in the various catalogues. Was this a GM item? Where can I find them? How the heck do you line those up before glueing?

I can't post multiple pics in one message so there will be a second post showing the wear points on the stinger hood.

You can see the contact areas (white) with rad support in this pic of the aftermarket stinger hood.

      Paul,

I would be more concerned about the radiator mounting being aftermarket, an incorrect reproduction, the worng configuration or needing some adjustment (if that's possible).

        Kent,
So that is not a factory cushion.

I do not have a 67 Corvette Central catalog. But those two little rubber bumpers look like the one's I had to get for my 55. They were called hood rubber bumpers and were under the hood assembly section in the 53 to 62 catalog on page 90. they were 3.95 a pair. You need to look at the covette central 67 catalog and see if they are there. But--- these may not be what you are looking for.

            Paul -

Nope, no such item was used in production; may have been added by a previous owner to compensate for the radiator support being located a tad too high relative to the inner fenders (which locate the hood hinge mounting up-down).

Thanks John. That sounds like the problem. Looks like I have another project for the spring.

                Exactly

I've never seen one like it on any '67.

I hesitated to ask the question but...how do I move the support down a bit? I would say 1/8 to 1/4"?

                    Paul -

The vertical position of the hood is located by the front clip (inner fenders), so you'd need to move the radiator support down relative to the front clip.

You'd need to slot the radiator support-to-inner fender holes in the inner fenders vertically on both sides and raise the front clip the required amount and re-tighten those bolts. Doing it the other way, by lowering the support relative to the clip, gets more complicated - you'd have to remove the welded shims between the frame and the radiator support brackets. Not a fun job in either case.

Or, you could grind down the flange on the top of the radiator support locally at the points where it's contacting the hood.
