      Joe,

My 57 also has the full VIN number stamped on the frame.

61-62 did not have a full VIN--it had S1 and then the final five digits of the VIN derivative.

The VIN on my late '57 is stamped twice side by side on the driver's side frame rail. The second stamp was not visible until after the frame was cleaned. The full VIN is stamped each time although the one closest to the front of the car is much lighter. The rear most stamp is in the usual location, not on the frame kick-up as noted in the '57 JG and the Noland Adams book.

and it depends on the year of the car in question....

              Don / Jack

I can't remember if it was a full VIN ..but I remember my 54 #814 was stamped twice...side by side on the frame rail drivers side.

Maybe the full VIN stamp process was adjusted to a partial vin stamp at some point in production ( this would be nice to record ).

I have copies of suggested improvements offered by factory workers as part of the Chevrolet MIP ( manufacturing improvement program ) like using rail cars..which was implemented around 1959, special coatings to prevent damage from weather and liquids dripping from cars above on trailer deliveries etc.. These documents offer a diary of how improvements were initiated.

I thought the VIN stamp as evidenced on the frame kick up was a second generation location.
