I justed received some restored 63 seat belts. There is no date on the tag. The person that did the restoration says that seatbelt tags weren't dated in 63, and that tag dating didn't start until 64. The Corvette Seatbelts book by Barbara Spear shows a "63" on the 63 seatbelt tag, and the NCRS 3rd edition 63-64 technical judging manual says the 63 tag " ...identifies the name of the belt manufacturer, DATE INFORMATION, manufacturer specification and vehicle application". Does anyone have an original 63 Corvette seatbelt that can help put this issue to rest? I don't want to be "dinged" in judging for not having a date on my 63 tag if it's supposed to have a date. Thanks.

From the picture posted I'd say neither one of those authorities ever saw a real tag from there descriptions.
A 63 tag should have Chevrolet across the top.
Followed by model #, federal specs, SAE standard, Irving Air Chute Inc. Lexington Kentucky.
What am I missing?

63 seat belt tag
Harry,
Every time I make plans like the I just did with the Western Regional and plop down my deposit I get called for work. I'm freelance so I won't know soon enough to make arrangements, so at this point no. But you never know.
Nice picture adding to my collection.

Welcome to the world of the running change!!
I would guess, also, that the change revolves in and around the SAE std, shown on Harry's belts as "J4"; I have a set of these on my March 63 coupe; I ALSO have just the tags that read:
"CHEVROLET
MODEL C772BB-H '63
FEDERAL SPEC.JJ-2-185a
SAE J4a
IRVING AIR CHUTE CO.
LEXINGTON KENTUCKY "
and then:
"CHEVROLET
MODEL C772CB-H '64
FEDERAL SPEC JJ - B - 185a
SAE J4a
IRVING AIR CHUTE CO
LEXINGTON KENTUCKY"
I suspect that one might be able to fixate on dates if one could find out when the "standard" changed. (Keep this to yourself - I'm running out of
passwords.)- Top
