    C2 clutch

Hi folks; Just a quick question; I've got a '67 small block convertable and the clutch pedal sits about inches higher than the brake pedal. I'm told this is normal, despite the fact that it is very akward to shift this way. Can it be adjusted lower?

    Re: C2 clutch

Check your pedal dimensions per the AIM. It gives the recommended pedal heights from the floor.
Basically the clutch is 7 inches from the floor at rest.
The brake pedal should be against the rubber bumper on the support bracket.
Mine are close to equal distance......

      Keith,

Yes you can adjust the travel. In the engine bay you will see where the clutch pedal rod connects to the cross shaft. The adjustment is at this point. If you have power brakes that may be reason that the brake pedal sits lower as I've seen that in some cars. You just need to be sure that when you press the clutch pedal in that the cultch fully disengages.

        Keith -

The height of the clutch pedal at rest is only set by the thickness of the rubber clutch pedal bumper on the steering column support bracket; the adjustment at the cross shaft under the hood has nothing to do with it - that's used to set the pedal free play (clutch adjustment). If the rubber pedal bumper is missing, the pedal will be an inch or so higher than the brake pedal.

          Too bad you don't have a '63-66 ....

.... with 2-position (quick & wimp) settings. Fast release positions a second stop on the pedal bracket to contact the bumper when pedal is closer to the floorboard.

I believe even C1's (at least by 1959 MY) had this feature.

Anyone know if they eliminated it in 1967 as a cost-cutting measure ?

There are several different rubber bumpers out there and the only one that compared to the orig. is from DR. Rebuild. It seams that some people make thaings to a "stand off scale" At 10 ft you can't tell the difference, but the DR. Rebuild bumpers are identical to the orig.
            That is half the problem.
Does your car have power brakes? If it does the brake pedal should be lower and this is due to a welded stop on the brake / clutch pedal support brakcket.
They are different than the manual brake cars. I didn't hink so but my 65 has power brakes and my orrig 66 does not. A few minutes to measure them and a 1/2 hr to get the kink out of my back and yep they are differnt.
Do you have an orig clutch pedal? The 67 has a welded pin on the pedal and it is not adjustable but the long rod is. The 66, 67 BB are the same as the 67 SB.
The older SB prior to 67 are a different length.
            Volunteer Vette Products has both.
