    Goodyear Bluestreak Tires

Does anyone (beside me) remember the 7.75 X 15 Goodyear Speedway Bluestreak tires from the late 60's and early 70's? These are the same tires that were on the black 67 L-88 convertible when Wayne Walker of Zip Products owned it in the mid 80's. I can remember seeing a brand new 1969 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S that came factory equipped with these tires. Does anyone know what other cars came with these tires installed at the factory? I think there were other Mopar products that wore them out of the assembly plant. I also remember seeing them in the Goodyear retail stores in that era. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I remember them. No Corvette was ever originally supplied with such tires, though. They could be added later, of course. Vaguely, I recall that some of the GT 350 Mustangs may have been originally fitted with them.

The Blue Streaks are primarily a racing tire. Consequently, I believe they had very thin sidewalls which don't do well for street driving.

Also vaguely, it seems like I may have seen somewhere that these tires are being reproduced.

Goodyear also made a Blue Streak passenger tire with the thin blue sidewall. In the late sixties I had a set (after market) on my 1965 Nassau Blue Coupe, 327/365HP, with American Torque Thrust mags. They looked awesome!

Thanks Rick. That is the tires I was talking about. I know for certain that they were OEM tires for some Chrysler products, i.e. the 69 Barracuda I mentioned. I think they may have been factory installed on some Belvederes, perhaps some hemi cars. I have an NOS one still in the wrapper. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other OEM applications.

          Thanks,
          Rex

I wonder how much interest there would be if they were reproduced? Anyone be interested?

            Thanks,

A good friend of mine had the blue streaks on his silver 66 350 hp couple, side exhaust. They were a knockout. They were soft butal rubber and were hard to get a squeek out of them let alone smoke. With these tires on the car it went around corners like a streak The real down side was that fun didn't last very long as there were rubber stripes all over the county roads. With a wide box and 3.55 it would put down two 25 to 35 feet long black marks in second gear. Maybe that is why I was pre-maturly gray. That was long time ago.

Gold lines and a Nasau Blue 65 coupe is cool but the Blue streaks would really set it off.

Somebody is making a blue sidewall tire at the present time, a 1967 Coupe started showing up at shows here this past summer with them on - it's a white coupe, would like to see what they would look like on a blue car?

Diamondback Tires in South Carolina will make you a radial tire with a blue stripe, same as their red or gold stripes. They use mostly Firestone tires for their reproduction units.

I am currently tring to persuade one of the reproduction tire companies to use my NOS Speedqay Bluestreak to pattern their reproduction after. The more interest that I can provide to them, the more receptive they will be to making this tire. Is anyone out there interested?

                    Thanks,

                      Goodyear Bluestreaks and Bob Wingate's S.O. '67

Below is a link to the Bob Wingate Shop Order '67 now owned by Bob Radke. I saw it at the National Convention at Monterey in 2002 and it was pretty special. Jim Weeks - Member #2978

Bob was very good friends with Joe Pike, then editor of Corvette News and Joe helped Bob get Corvettes with "custom, factory-added" features, like the Goodyear Bluestreak racing tires and American Racing mag wheels. The tires on Bob's 67 Corvette were actually the Goodyear Bluestreak Sports Car Special tires for "Racing Only". The 7.75 X 15 Speedway Bluestreaks were a true high performance street tire, similar to the Goodyear Blue Dot tires that came on the early Shelby Mustangs.

If I were a little more computer literate, I would be glad to post some photos of the tires I am referring to.

Rex, I picked up a pair of somewhat used 7.75 X 15 Speedway Bluestreaks at the Florida meet several years ago. I would like to have found a nice complete set for my Lynndale '67 coupe at the time but had no luck. Jim

Here is a pic of my black/blue 67 with original bluestreaks, while they are not correct they sure do look nice. If I posted this on a different thread I am sorry for that.
