Judging question

Can anyone tell me the point deduction on the following: I have a 64 aproxx 80% original and almost 100% matching except for the two seats which are leather in stead of vinyl. The color is correct thought. All the rest of the trim is correct.

you will find your answer in the "Judging Reference manual" available from the NCRS store, but I believe a seat material change is a 50% deduct on the seat originality as long as the color is correct.

Sam,

I don't have my NCRS Judging Reference Manual handy, so I can't tell you what it says regarding incorrect seat materials. The originality scoring for the seating area is broken into three areas which are seats, backs and trim for a total of 24 points. Without the JRM, I'd say the point deduction would be between 6 to 10 points for leather seat material in place of the original vinyl material.

If knowone else responds to your question with the infomation found in the JRM, I'll look it up tonight and post again.

I've got mine handy.

Seventh edition, page 24, Section 4, Item 12, ALTERED CARS - HORSEPOWER/COLOR/INTERIOR

"...Change of Interior Color or Fabric: 50% Originality deduction on every item affected by the alteration".

I interpret that to mean that if the seats are judged as a separate line item on the judging sheets, the 50% originality deduction (plus all the condition points) would apply only to points assigned to the seats.

If every thing else grades good. Will this prevent the car from being judged gold at bloomington or NCRS top fight.

I can't say for BG, but that alone would not keep a car from Top Flighting assuming other big point items score well.

Anyone know the points allowed for the seats? Just guessing here, but the points allowed for the seats are probably not nearly as significant as some other items, maybe on the order of 25-35 points?

You have new leather seat covers. The "condition" is new 100% credit, the material "originality" wrong deduct.

Interiors are judged on two criteria - Originality and Condition.

I don't know the points for a 64 but here's an example for 53-55:

Seats - Originality 45 Condition 41 Total 86 points

Your leather seats would lose 50% on Originality but if in like new condition could receive 100% of those points.

The way I read it -50% originality (plus all the condition points). I thought Chuck was taking off all the condition points. Just checking

My mistake...I was confused on the ten percent rule.

The ten percent rule says if the remaining credit after judging is LESS THAN 10 PERCENT of the assigned originality points, then you would lose all condition points. Assuming you still get ten percent of the originality points after the 50 percent deduct, you should still get some condition points.
