Still should be on the pillar post if '76 also partial number stamped on engine pad and frame and transmission.

Definitely on windshield pillar! Have a '75 and '77 sitting in shop and they both have a VIN plate on post. Beware of a car without a VIN plate. You could get stopped in a traffic check and have your car confisicated. I stand to be corrected, but I believe that it is a felony to not have a visible tag.

Robert, do you know where to look on the windshield pillar post? Stand outside of the car on the drivers side and look down towards the steering wheel through the windshield at the pillar post. You should see it at that angle if it is there. There is a cut out of the pillar post cover where the VIN plate should be visible.

It should definitely, for 100% certain be found on the left side pillar post regardless of whether the car is a 75 or a 76. As others have noted, you should see it within the "cutout" on the pillar post trim. However, sometimes the trim becomes dislocated and may "hide" part of the VIN plate. If there actually is no VIN plate, that's a MAJOR problem. That means that there's nothing to "tie" your registration and/or owner certificate to this car.

all VINs located on the driver's side windshield post...along with the other usual stamping locations..motor, tranny and even a few oil filter boss (VIN derivatives).

okay found vin on pillar post. found trim code and paint code. having trouble figuring out the 681 paint color and the 418 trim color. 418 trim is dark saddlebut I can't find the 681 paint. vin numbers indicate this car is a 1974. 1Z37T4S428417

                    Hi Robert,

I don't believe that 681 is a correct paint code for a '74/'75 Corvette. The '74 codes were three digit numbers starting with a nine and I believe that the '75 codes were two digit numbers.

                        Hi Robert,

Check the trim tag again. The 418 trim code doesn't look right either for a '74/'75. The dark saddle was used in '70/'73.

                        Later,
                        Johnny
