    69 front spoiler fitment

I held up my repro spoiler to see how it fit and this is what I found. The other end is the same.

Is this as good as they are supposed to fit or is this a poor repro? FYI, I must have had the camera angle off on this one because the gap looks a lot worse in person.

      Greg------

These lower spoilers do not fit with precision, especially on 1969's. In this case, the gap looks a little excessive but it may well be "within the range of normalcy".

The spoiler, however, does look to be just a bit "irregularly configured" in the area where the gap is greatest. I'll bet that all of the ones on the market are pretty much configured the same, though. Also, there's always the possibility that the fiberglass adjoining the spoiler has been "re-contoured" over the years (e.g. as a result of a collision repair). This area, though, was among the poorest finished areas of the 1969 Corvette body. Much irregularity is notoriously seen here. It today's world, this sort of body work would be TOTALLY unacceptable in a new car. Things were different in 1969, though.

I believe the originals fit better. You can stick that piece in some real hot water and make it fit better. That is a characteristic of the plastic. The mold is correct but as the part is pulled from the mold it just does its own thing I believe. I have a few NOS ones hanging around Might be for sale Take care, Terry

Well for now I'll try the hot water trick and see if I can't make it better...at this point I have nothing to lose. There is no previous damage in this area that would cause this much of a gap(all the glass is original and intact) so I'm 99% sure that the problem is with the repro spoiler.

Geoffrey, I did a google search on "mclellan 68-69 fitment" and all I get is a bunch of old posts from the Corvette Forum. So I did a search there but nothing usefull came back. Is this where I should be looking or is it an actual book? Just trying to figure out if they all fit like crap or if mine is extra crappy?

I have had replacement ones and they fit cruddy. Originals do fit better as I recall. If you use the hot water method, try to keep it under boiling and don't leave it in there any longer than you have to. I have done this with other things with good success. Terry
