    Gas tank cover screws

What is the proper size machine screw and correct head configuration for a early 57 Corvette gas tank cover? These are the 9 screws at the front edge of the cover. Are flat washers and/or split lock washers used also?
I believe the 9 rear and side screws use j-nuts and a sheet metal type phillips screw, please correct me if I am wrong.
    Thanks.

    Bruce,

According to the 56-57 AIM (Sheet 4.00), there were J clips to receive the rearward Phillips screws (the screw that ring the cover and are not part of where it attaches to the panel behind the seats). There are two different part numbers for the screws (#160052, #161869). Sorry, I don't know what sizes those correspond to. There are serrated washers (#138479) shown under the forward screws (where it joins the cowl behind the seats). No washers are shown under the rearward screws.

      Bruce,

My early '57 used all pan head Philips type, 10-32 X 5/8 machine screws with ext tooth locks along the front edge, 1/2 inch long sheet metal type with no locks into the J-clips along the back edge.

      Hope this helps.
