Mid-year Windshield Wiper Motor Restoration Reccom

After cleaning out my part of my garage yesterday, I came across a #518 windshield wiper motor. Cannot remember if it is functional & someone at some point thought it should silver - entirely silver. Anyway, other than cosmetics it seems to be quite restorable. Anyone have reccomendations for a good person to do the work? I found a gentleman in the Driveline "the wiper wizard" - any experience? I don't actually intend to use this motor but to restore it for potential future need. As I remember, the #518 is the 63-4 part, while #602 (?) is the 65-7 part. Given that the car is a 1967, I would prefer also to swap the canister out unless there is intrinsic value to the earlier unit (rarity) etc.?

    Thanks for the advice!

Carl, I would recommend Tom Jessup a fellow ncrs memeber. I sent Tom my 67 motor and it came back looking beautiful. Tom gives a lifetime warranty and his pricing is quite reasonable. His numbers are (715) 359-2491 home, (715) 359-4852 work and e mail is jestec@gte.net. He lives in Rothschild Michigan. Feel frre to email me direct if you have any questions or comments.... As Tony has stated, this is one of th easier repairs that most folks can do on their mid-year. Although I had never even seen one of these motors apart, I did both of mine in just a couple of hours. Still working after four years. As long as your motor and headlight assemblies are turning, you probably just have some primordial grease that has started to really harden up. I took mine apart, cleaned, regreased them, and then took the pot metal gear and flipped it over. You only use 180 degrees of the circumference of that gear and if you just turn it over so that you are using the other 180 degrees, you should get another 20-30 years out of your motor. I didn't touch the electrical part of the assembly since my motors worked. I did clean up the steel case for the gear box and the motors using 000 steel wool and a little elbow grease. Then I sprayed them with clear paint. It is a little too glossy but they haven't rusted since I did them. I have included a web site that talks about pulling them out but I can't find the one that actually shows how to rebuild the gear assembly. I know that I have it in a reprint and if you are interested I can scan it and e-mail it to you. Should you decide that you don't want to tackle this yourself maybe one of the other readers can suggest a good vendor. http://www.d-p-g.com/corvettefever/oct96/eN.htm

Sounds good but can you get them to flip fast enough to clean the windshield? Just kidding, couldn't resist.....

          DANGER! WILL ROBINSON, DANGER.

Ladies and gentlemen, in technical terms this was a brain fart. I was rushing to get out the door and read what I thought I saw and said, "hey, I know how to do that". Oh well, back to third grade for remedial reading. BTW, Carl if you ever need help with HEADLIGHT motors, e-mail me. I do have some background there. Sorry!

Careful there Gary. When my Holley started to fart I quickly learned about power valves and power valve savers. There isn't an easy quick fix for your malady. We'll all pray for ya!

The motor may still work, there's not much to them. If anyone is interested in re-building them themselves, I tried this once and documented how the internal wiring works (MS Word document). It's available from the Corvette Restoration and Preservation List database: (http://www.wizard.net/crpl/dbase1.htm) if anyone is interested. -David Knowles '67 427/390 convertible
