What Bill never mentioned was how long he thought the engine had been assembled. If this engine has been sitting around for years and started on occasion after long set ups then you start getting "scourge wear". Engines do not like to start dry or sit for long periods then started without priming. Lots of big words coming in on this subject but from here it looks like just some old age and time for the fresh build. Check clearences, polish, check clearences, keep it clean and have fun building it.
