    Restorer Article Re: YJ8 wheels

    After looking thru the archives, there was a mention of an article in The Restorer regarding the YJ8 option aluminum wheels (Spring 1994). I no longer have this issue and was wondering if someone could tell me what the crux of the piece addresses.

    My reason for my search is that I recently bought a set and though the front side of the wheels look similar, the back side on one of the wheels does not.

    Did this article show pictures of the back side of these wheels?
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Bob

      Bob;

      I wrote that article back in 1994. I do have some pictures somewhere. I also promised to write a followup article "one of these days".

      If you are wondering about whether or not you have an original 1973 YJ8 wheel, the simple way to find out is to see if the part number of 329381 is cast on the back side of the wheel.

      There would also be a date code indication on the back side of the wheel. The digits representing the date arranged in a circle.

      What else can I tell you?

        Only original lug nuts with black centers will fit in the holes. 76 and later lug nuts have a larger base and won't fit in the hole.

          Thanks for your response Ed,

          My first concern was to determine just what I had bought. From the front, they all looked the same (satin finish, black center section, etc). But my concern was to the casting difference on the back side of one of the wheels.

          Today, I went to Chevy-Vettefest and I think I saw what I needed to see. The one wheel of the set is most likely a repo. I had the chance to see some "new" wheels and the back side looks like the one I have. I also saw 2 sets for sale in the parts area. And the back sides look like my other three.

          I did not check date codes on my wheels yet, but I do know that I do not have any of those rare "73 wheels.
