    Should a 39 year-old go topless?

I'm about to show / have my "61 judged for the first time at the Michigan Chapter Meet at Holland, MI on June 16-17, 2000. Having never experienced a real NCRS judging, I was wondering the pro/con of showing the car with / without its hardtop???

In a related question... How well do static-cling film "Deck Lid Protectors" work? I've got a very nice finish on the car and would like to minimize the inevitable damage done by the top(s). If it does work well and look (at least) ok... Is this stuff applied and left in place or removed/replaced at will? Black or clear a better look for a Roman Red car? What's the judging impact?

Thanx for the advice from a long time 'Vette owner that's very new to shows/judging.

Generally, a 61 Corvette will score higher with a hardtop than with a softtop. The static cling protector will result in a point deduction due to the fact that it is an "owner inspired" addition. No top at all will result in no points at all for the top section.

    Varooom!

      Barry,

I look forward to seeing you there.

Dale is correct, but of course it depends how correct either is for your car, i.e. is the top in question dated, what is the condition, etc. Only one top is judged, so pick your favorite.

I have already heard about your car, and look forward to seeing it in person.

        Only if silicone is used...

...on the underside of the deck protecters. I nearly lifted the paint off with one of these "protecter" strips after several months of storage with the hardtop in place. The next season I applied a thin barrier of Armorall underneath the strip before the hardtop was mounted and car stored, with no adverse effects to the paint or the strip.
