    Length of 56 powerglide

What is the overall length of a powerglide transmission in a 56 Corvette? Measured from the mounting point on the engine block (not the adapter plate) to the end of the tail shalf. I am contemplating a "temporary" installation of a Turbo 350 and need to know what length / application Turbo 350 to look for.

    Ed,

A general answer is you need the short shaft 350, it will be close to the length of the powerglide. The long shaft is much too long.

Have you looked at the 200R4, a 3 speed auto with overdrive and about the same length. It will fit.

Thanks Verle. I had not considered the 200R4 until Dick Whittington suggested it. Sounds like a good option to me.
