    C2 Tight Door Weatherstrip

The passenger side door on my 66 roadster is a little tight on closing. I replaced all of the weatherstrip with Corvette Rubber material. I can see the tight fit at the top of the door where it contacts the upper top jamb and where the convertible top window seal "flap" contacts the top of the door. If I lube with silicon the door closes fine but the lube leaves a black smudge. Would heating the area with a hair dryer to soften the rubber help? Any ideas?

    Regards,

PS - door adjustment and setting is good -- top/bottom side to side, so I do not want to touch the adjustment.

      Dave,

The weatherstrip will eventually "take a set" and conform to the door and window sealing surfaces. The doors/windows will become easier to close after this happens. I don't think that you need any added heat, at this time, unless the door/windows won't close at all.
Better too tight than too loose, IMHO. My '65 is almost as watertight as the legendary "amphibicar". .

After installing Covette Rubber weatherstripping on my 63 the convertible top weatherstrip was rubbing against the passengers door. I was told to put some baby powder on the weatherstrip so it doesn't rub on the paint. It seems to work. The rubber does compress after its been on the car for a while.

My drivers door was a bear to close after the new w/s job but is better now a few months later. Not so with the deck lid. I had it aligned perfectly and it would close very smoothly and easily. I put the w/s on and now it's very hard to close and the back edge is raised way up, way over 1/4". I was hoping it would settle a little but it hasn't and its been 3 months.

Make sure that you've cut the "V" notch in the weatherstrip under the door as called for in the AIM. It tends to let the air escape from the hollow tube of the weatherstrip and the door closes a little easier. Over time the weatherstripping will conform and door will close easier... never like original.
