    number matching 6 month rule?

question on numbers/dates. bought my car from 2nd owner, he bought it in jan-74 owned it 31 yrs til i bought it
Its a 72 BB, build date end of june 72, carb is a carter quadrajet 7042216 which is correct, date stamp is K1 which would put it at nov 71. This sound correct. I hear people talking about 6 months previous to build day. My engine, manifold, heads, water pump, all june casting within 2 weeks same with starter and alt. would this time frame be consider ok for judging

They are talking about the 6 month window for parts vs. the vehicle assembly date. Normally the components will be within one month or less, but in some instances they may be more. In the Judging Reference Manual you will note windshields are allowed one year. There are always exceptions to the rule, but the majority of the time 6 months is more than enough of a window

When I had my '72 3 star 454 car, built in the last week of production, 454 with A/C it had a December of '71 carb on it and the car had never been altered, bought from original owner.
