    Battery Installation

Hi Group, I just restore the battery compartment on my 64 coupe W/AC (327) new battery pan etc.. Brought a correct new antique battery now I can't get it back in. What do you guys recommend. Thank you, Terry

It can be difficult at times, but if the battery is the right size it will go in. My coupe is in storage but seems to me when I pulled the battery it has to be tilted toward the engine and front end brought up first. Worse case, remove the exhaust manifold, but you really should not have to do that. Hopefully someone with their car at their garage will jump in and help out.

Just another thought, if you have a battery strap that attaches to the battery posts it will make things a little easier because you can keep your hands and arms out of the way.

        Terry,

Because it's one of those things you do maybe every 6 years I don't remember anything other than you swear that SOB won't go back in. The position is so unintuitive that when you hit the right angle you could drive a Mack truck through it. I think it's on it's end sliding and twisting down and level you swear it's going to spill.

it'll go in withour removing the exh manifold. it goes in best with a strap on the posts and angled at about a 45 degree angle. its tight but can be done. mike

the master cyl. You dont have to undo any brake lines so you wont have to bleed anything, just remove the two nuts holding the master to the fire wall or the booster and its floats around on the brake lines, gives you a lot more room to get the battery in. Phil 8063

With the panel removed behind the front left tire and the front wheel cut all the way to the right there should be enough room to slide battery in; to gain more access room remove the front tire.

I've removed the panel several times; the panel has riveted-on nut plates; never a problem, unless I'm just lucky.
