I would like to brighten up my faded Red dash components. Any experience with available "dyes/paint". If so, any recommended products?

I have used Dupont Vinyl Color (medium gloss)on severial dashes. The key is to have a clean dash! When you think you have cleaned good, clean it two or three more times. Beleave it or not I like to clean with Scrubbing Bubbles?

Re: C2 Red Dash Dye/Paint
Bob, whatever paint/dye you use, make sure you purchase enough of the color that you are applying at the start of your project. I originally did the center console in my '64 using rattle can dye and later decided to do the dash pads and related parts. Although the dye purchased the second time around came from the same vendor (who knows who actually manufactured the dye), the color did not match the first batch. Subsequently, I started from square one and bought an ample supply from Al Knoch that was applied with an air brush.
Best regards,

Re: C2 Red Dash Dye/Paint
Amen! Bill's advice about getting the surface SPOTLESSLY clean is ON THE MARK! You want the vinyl paint to absorb into the material uniformly and that won't happen if there are spots of dirt/grease OR if pores in the vinyl are 'plugged'.
Most who mfgr vinyl paint also have a 'surface prep' agent. One that comes to mind is SEM who's well known in the automotive paint circles. You can research their products at just about any local automotive paint distributor and the vinyl prep agents are rifle-shot targeted at your intended application vs. household cleaning agents.
Last, correct temperature during application is another factor. Each mfgr's vinyl paint will have instructions on the can, but I've found what they list as a MINIMUM application temperature (usually around 70F) can be on the low side. Painting in broad daylight on a hot summer day to get the vinyl temp significantly above the minimum temperature spec'd helps a BUNCH!- Top

Re: C2 Red Dash Dye/Paint
I should have included that the final step is to use the manufacturer's surface prep, sorry.
The scrubbing bubbles helps to get all of the old armorall and such out of the vinal.

Re: C2 Red Dash Dye/Paint
Bill, When purchasing the Dupont Vinyl Color system what code would you specify when order the product? Would you specify 407 interior code for a 1967 red interior corvette to get what you need to dye the dash pads? Should you also dye the door panels at the same time? Thanks, Don.- Top

Don
Its been a log time since I dyed an Interior. I am sure that I used the interior code? If you don't redye all the parts you run the chance that it will not match, but you can always redye your dash first and see how it compares to the other parts.
