What date spread between Eng and Trans?

My car was built 28 Jan 65, Engine was assy'ed Jan 15 65. What date should I be seeing for the trans assy? I'm assuming the trans was built than shipped to St Louis??????

    Dennis -

Although transmission "numbers" aren't judged (except in Star/Bowtie judging) and NCRS allows full credit for dated components that ARE judged up to six months prior to the car's final assembly date, 2-6 weeks is "typical".

      Thanks John

I have a 325 main case that was cast the second week of Dec 64 and a assy date of Jan 14 65. This case has no VIN stamped on it.

I was trying to gage where in build process the transmission and engine became one.

        This is a 63.

        April 2, Transmission
        April 15, Engine
        April 20, Car

They become one just a short time before the car body and frame are mated.

Hi bill, I know my 65 to be the original drive train, my dates are as follows, AO smith car block cast 6 14 5 . engine assby 0624HH. trans 0629 . alt 7-1-65 .starter 7-8-65 . diff 5-20-65. exp tank 65D. radiator 65E .heads E15-5. AOsmith body build date L01 or july first, as you can see my starter and alt were stamped the same day, or with the starter 7 days later, this was normal for AOsmith cars as they were shipped by train back to the plant for completion and took up to two or more weeks to finish the car, therefore the starter and alt are put on the car the day of assby,I suspect the finish date of my car to be 7-14-65,sr#22192. hope this helps.

Try 105 days from trans to motor assy

Canadian delivered '65 convertible # 04835. But then there was a 40 day strike during the P0829 of the trans and the F1212HT for the block.

                Jim

Great Info and just what I was looking for. So, your trans was built about 2 weeks prior to the car. That's about the time frame I keep coming up with looking at the data I have (books).

My trans was built Jan 14 65, I have a St Louis body dated Jan 28 65.

Speaking of parts, what major componets were NOT built at St Louis??? ie: had to be assy'ed than shipped in and installed??

                  Wayne,

Albert Kassab is still living in Montreal and works for one of my clients. It's a very small world.......

Re: What date spread between Eng and Trans?

More 65 model year date spread info from an AOS SB car with an ultimate "birthday" of April 6, 1965:

Engine block cast date: C175 (March 17)
Heads [both] dated C225 (March 22)
Engine Assembly Date: 0329 (March 29) in an HH (L76) configuration

Muncie (original, with proper VIN deriv)date: P03 29 (March 29)

btw, the rear diff case (assumed original) has a stamp of AO 4 1 65 (April 1),
and the body built date code from the trim tag on this car is March 29

the rear diff is the outlier on my car, date-wise, but still sensical given the April 6 birthday.

                      Dennis -

NO components were manufactured at St. Louis; it was simply an assembly plant. A tour through your assembly manual will show you all the parts they received from outside supplier plants and assembled - they installed every part shown in the manual with a part number.
