72 interlock cable problem

Just put in a interlock cable for auto. Car didnt have one but i purchase a new one. when i hooked everything up the cable was a bit long. When connected i had to force to get back into park. and when i looked at cable connection by firewall. the cable was bending. Looks like its about 1/2 in. too long. Is there anyway to adjust for diff. Or is cable wrong size. Measures about 21 in.

The cable for your application should be 21-1/8" long.

Loosen the bolts on the bracket that hold the steering column that the cable is attached to and turn it till the key will come out and the cable is not in a bind. The adjuustment is covered in the service manual for you model year and a good book to own.
