I have seen advertised on e-bay a starter solenoid wire loom clip, I have a 71 BB car and was wondering if it should have one of these on it? Didn't see one when I removed the original starter and shielding.

Typically, if the AIM shows a feature for the base car, and the relevant option section (in your case LS5 or LS6) doesn't indicate a feature specifically changed, then it applies. Check your AIM, UPC 12, about page A11...this will show the base engine configuration; in 70 the clip and a clamp at the bell housing is used. Then, check sections UPC LS5 or UPC LS6...if the appropriate section doesn't show a starter harness change, then the clip should be used.
Or...just take the short cut, and look up the part in Dr. Rebuild's catalog. The Doc says it is used for all 68-82. Interesting that someone discarded the clip, but kept the heat shield...I would figure the shield to be missing if anything was MIA.
