Jet Air is listed in the JM as an accepted tire for 63.

Definitely. The were the plant installed P-92 tire on my SWC, but chunked after the first day of hot laps at Kent and were replaced with blackwall 6.70-15 Michelin X radials within a year. In addition to coping with several more hot lap days at Kent over the next four years, they lasted 47K miles and were excellent in both rain and SNOW!

The spelling of the tire name is "Jet Aire"

Now that we've decided the tires are OK, maybe you can elaborate on this picture a bit. When, where, who and a little about the car too !!

That's me and my new SWC shortly after taking delivery in March 1963. The image is a scan of a photo taken by my mother with an old Brownie box camera in the driveway of the Williams family residence at 2600 40th Ave. West in the Magnolia Bluff section of Seattle. The house is a locally well known landmark known as "The Pink House", and it's still pink even though my parents passed away in the early nineties, and the house was sold. Too bad I don't have a photo of the car with the house included as the pink English Tudor is as classy as a SWC.

I was a 16-year old junior at Queen Anne High School, and had been working and saving to buy the car since I was 11. I paid cash! My dad who was a former Pontiac dealer negotiated about a $450 discount from Alan Green Chevrolet, and the price out the door including tax, license, and title was $4615.77. My dad and I actually met with Green. Don Campbell was at that meeting too as he was the salesmann assigned to the transaction. Campbell co-drove Green's Z06 (one of the first six examples built circa October, '62) with Jerry Grant at Sebring.

I special ordered the car with L-76, M-20, G92 (3.08:1), J-65, P-92, U-65 and have all the paperwork including the dealer copy of the production order.

I wanted KO wheels, but was told it would delay the order, so I dropped them. My primary reason for not ordering FI was that is was "mystical and complicated", but after getting my shop manual and reading all the FI info it didn't seem that complicated.

Over the years I have variously thought that not ordering FI was either one of the dumbest or smartest things I ever did. The AFB is so simple and reliable and I never lost a race to a FI car - at worst it was a tie.

It doesn't get any better than that..huh Tom?

              Duke,

Thank you for the details (yea, I'll file them away too)

I want you to know I really appreciate your continued presence here on the TDB. For people like me who are tring to work through the restoration of a basket case, input from an original owner like yourself is absolutely beyond measure.

              hang tight..

Thanks Duke !! Awesome story. Sorry if you had to repeat it for those here who already knew the story. I wish I would have had the opportunity to buy my 63 new. Unfortunately, I wasn't born until 1965. !! Thanks for staying involved and helping us who weren't there, enjoy our cars !! I'm sure I can speak for many here, that hearing stories like yours are surely facinating. Thanks.
