After getting a few emails about the several previous threads on the same general subject, and warmer weather for working in the garage, I decided to pull the fan and uppper & lower pulleys off of '65 #014xx. I've owned this car for 25+ years, and none of the previous owners were "restorers". In fact, I rescued it from a guy who was ready to make it into his autocross (slalom) car.
Autoload pic below is of the water pump pulley 3848904, used for '64-65 C.A.C w/Sp. H/Per., according to the Chev Parts bood (rev July '65) It is described as having an O.D. of 6_9/32" dia, but mine is 5.82". However, the '65 AIM shows 3850979 only for C60 / L76 for this application.
But look closely at the GM stamping with the letter "S" below. Note the stylized script/font. Also check the link to the crank pulley, which shows the same script (a matching set ). The balancer pulley # 3858533 apparently was introduced in production only on August 8th of 1964, so I wouldn't expect to see this on '64 MY cars.
I'll clean up the 7-blade fan a bit and post pics tomorrow.
Close-up of water pump pulley part #3848904 (note orange paint UNDER black)
Balancer pulley # 3858533 (note same style script)
Would be interested to hear from any that have seen this script on '64-65 upper "904"s and '65(+?) owners that have seen it on "533" pulleys (L76, L84, L79 w/o PS). Can anyone explain the orange paint next to the steel on the upper pulley ?
