Rubbing paint with compound is not something condoned by NCRS and has been discouraged for some time now.

The present NCRS policy re paint is indifferent to the paint material/systems used in restoration so long as it appears like typical facrory finishes. Several regional meet judging schools have been devoted to this topic and are very beneficial to understanding paint judging standards.

In the past, if your paint was judge to be clear coat, you were allowed to try and bring paint up in a few differant locations selected by the judges - to prevent someone from having a few preselected spots to rub. Now if your car is judged to be clear coated from what i understand no compounding is allowed at any time. As stated, if it looks like a duck, it's a duck.
