For those that remember my post about 6 weeks ago. Through alot of help from this board I hooked up with Gary at Corvette City in Denver, he " blueprinted"a oil pump for me. The result, 35PSI at hot idle 45PSI at hot 2000 rpm. Thanks alot. Terry Robertson

Re: '62 high oil pressure
Gary simply profiled the pump and replaced it with one meeting correct OEM standards... Melling used to pack more than one spring in their kits (stock & high performance), but now they come with a single spring. Your guess is as good as anyone else's as to what tolerance they hold on what they ship today.
Gary's an old time racer and his shop does restorations (several Duntov Mark of Excellence cars), repair and maintenance as well as building and crewing VR cars (vintage racer). His cars took #1/#2 at Shell Oil's Denver Gran Prix, vintage race, a few years ago and he knows his stuff.
But, if you're calling for free advice, bear in mind shop rates are $100+ hour and you'll go 'on the clock' when you call for 'brain picking' purposes. We're lucky in Denver because Gary's the Rocky Mtn Chapter Techincal Advisor and if you're an RMC member, you have 'access'.

Re: '62 high oil pressure
The hot and run pressure would be easy to bench test. The hot and idle would be the hard part. A loose or tight engine could make a big difference here.
I'd assume he lapped the gears and then reduced end play clearance of the gears by cutting the housing and then installed a bypass spring of known length and tension.- Top
