Re: C3 Shake the foundation for points?
Not knowing the specific C3 judging guide and the reference you're speaking about, I can only say, THIS IS NOT A NEW QUESTION. For me, it's a no-brainer; for others it may be a dilemma.
Someone's answer to the question will depend on several factors: (1) Your confidence level (such confidence must be justified) in being able to ascertain originality when you see it...peel off the layers and figure it out for yourself as a last resort; (2) Your comfort level in being "successful" in your organizational pursuit (the merit badge syndrome) vis-a-vis your desire to maintain exacting originality; (3) Your comfort level in making reasonable substitutes for materials no longer available in their original form; (4) And, finally, your comfort level in the expertise of the individuals actually making the originality determination on the judging field vis-a-vis the accuracy of the written text in the judging guides. Want more to drive you crazy?...Everyone acknowledges there are errors in the judging guides, but on the other hand, all judges are/were not created equally; this "originality" determination may be fluid and illusive from one meet to the next.
For me personally, my response to the question is inextricably tied to my character and integrity as a restorer. So what is it you want to do?...Are you primarily a goal-oriented person that can sacrifice a little perceived originality to accomplish the pre-emminent goal?...Or, Do you want to be the very best Corvette RESTORER you can be and deal with feelings of failure?- Top

Lyle, Don't Tell Me... ;D
You've never faced the decision of putting some tiny aspect of an original car back just like it was?...or, making it just like the judging guide says so you could garner some judging points? That's the principle Denny is talking about, not whatever is on page 22.
Besides, it's a philosophical question that everyone has to answer for themselves...one person's clarity will make no sense to another.- Top
