Let me answer your question with a question(s)

Do you see anything strange about the length of that transmission hanging off the back of that CHEVROLET ENGINE and if so, what do you attribute it to?

      I think it's '63 Pontiac (Bonneville?)

but I'm open minded about it.

When did the speedo cable move to the passenger side of the tail shaft housing ? 1965 or 6 ?

'66 on Chevy II. Don't know on the rest of them. Now that you mention it, that gear location looks aft in relation to the maincase too.

phil et al: thanks for the education on muncie tailshafts. while in med school in late 60's and early 70's, i'd go to Jack's Junyard in Mt Morris Pa every saturday and drag home all the damaged t-10's and muncies that jack had taken in the previous week. my job was to make as many functioning 4 speeds that the damaged bunch would make. did a bunch of chevy pass cars, gtos and 442's. never had a long tailshaft muncie but its enlightening to know they exist. thanks for the lesson in 4 speed history. mike
