    Two + things change

The positraction case is 4.11 and up (differs from 3.70 and down).

Second, as Ralph says the speedo drive gear on the trans output shaft will be same for 3.08 to 3.55, another for 3.70 to 4.11, and a third for 4.56. Of course you'll have to play around with the appropriate plastic driven gears to get speedo accuracy.

On a Mucie trans, going from close to wide ratio (or vice versa) involves a different input gear (the splined shaft with the ring(s) and a different cluster gear (countergear); first, second, third and reverse remain the same gears. Even though the numbers in the spec books changes for all gears, this is governed by the tooth ratio which changes only on the gears mentioned. If you decide on a M22 gearset, all will change.

      Re: C2 Differential Gear Ratio

I have a 65 396 that was ordered with a 3:70 rear. I have had the car now for 6 years and use it quite often and find the driveability to be good. I have, however, never driven any other 396. Good luck.
