    '55 hood hinge spring?

I'm thumbing through the '53 - '55 AIM /body assembly manual and see that on the driver side hinge there is a spring #3706411 that connects to the hinge and the radiator support assembly. Any of you other '53 - '55 owners have one of these in place? Any source for them? Thx!

neither 54 vin 2184, which was a near unmolested vette pre-restoration, nor 55 vin 1416, a basket case when i acquired her, had the spring you mention. keep us posted on your research on this item. thanks, mike

Awhile back I noticed that hinge spring in my AIM too. Looking at my AIM again I see I put a note under the part that it was 1953 only. Unfortunately, I didn't make a note of where I found that out and don't remember at the moment.

Any way, 54 #4517 doesn't have the spring either.

Found the reference for the hinge spring being only 1953...

1953-1955 Corvette Parts Catalog pg. 41 Gr. 8.013 SPRING, Hood Hinge Part #3706411 '53.

AIM does show a spring but I never saw one used in any 53 to 55 , it's like the 57 AIM showing a power booster for PB in the driver side inner fender that was never done. (By the way that drawing gave me the idea to add a booster in my 55 giving my 55 PB's) That I wrote about that work GREAT guys!!

By the way I saw some poor fitting hoods at the FL. Meet and tried to explaine how to correct it and told them I wrote about that in NCRS and they gave me that look (go away).I also asked them what the pop up spring were for and got the same look!

Went out to the garage last night, checked both of my hinges, no hole for a spring.

                55 #518 has

the original hinges still in place, and there is no such spring or apparently any provision for one on it.
