Photo Quiz C2 (but only select option/years)

What's the part / where does it go ? You can tell the scale of the part by the attached IBM punch card.

I'll even give Roy B. a hint. You were about 100ft from this part in the campground at Sun Valley National.

Is it a side panel heat duct from a 63-67 car? Or a prototype of same?

        Re: Photo Quiz C2 "wayne"

Are you the guy that came by the campground with a tanker C2 I talked with? I think it's the wizzalswip I lost off my 55 Corvette that goes in to the ketsockitdipperpan.

          TIME'S UP --- the answer

This part is a "Filler --roof panel power vent hole" for 1964 and 1965 N03 36.5 gallon tank cars, to be found in Gr 2.811, part # 3852425; also in '65 AIM UPC N03, Sheet 2.

Tankers were, by default, "blower delete", probably to save cost and weight, and as the option was primarily for competition, not comfort. It IS possible to install both the blower and ducting AND the fender underbody wheelhouse filler panels [extra body clearance for large competition rubber on 6' wide rims] (click on following Chev News link).

The picture below is of the filler panel on my '65, glued to the driver side roof duct for cabin air exhaust, which is functional on non-36 gal cars. Notice the long siamesed wires with the orange and white stripes (for the halo panel courtesy lamp). It's excessive length is because '64/65 tankers used the CONVERTIBLE rear harness; no need for blower wiring. The installation is incredibly crude, and the spray gun for the interior paint missed coverage in the crevice. Excuse the white stuff on the wheelwell cap -- it's glue residue from a previous owner of the mid-70's who decided to "carpet" the rear.

The quiz picture is of one of the parts ordered by a dealer in 1965, after the original owner of a '65 fuel injected tanker (not mine ) complained that he wanted the blower, like other new '65 coupes. Of course, he already had this filler panel factory installed, so it was the wrong part. Finally, he never installed the blower components that the dealer supplied.

To answer Mark, it is made of hand-laid fiberglass, with orange/yellow resin on the other side, and white primer on the exposed surface. Don had the closest guess, in a general way. Roy ?? -- nice try .
