Re: What about PC VIN #001 or 002?

    Chris

Most dealers must have preped the pace car the way the owner wanted it as some of them have the decals in the box. The judges who decided to take off for installed decals must have decided they are a dealer or owner option to install them. I know the team leader has made a decision but at some point maybe he would reconsider with new evidence as this item has been gone over many times since judging 78 pace cars started. 1995 Cypreess Gardens I think.

How do we score the extra tail lights...

How do we score the extra tail lights that are often found on 61 - 67s? Do the original 4 get Zero points? My feeling is the original stickers get points and the body gets deduct for non original decal similar to the point hit for a pin stripe or a dealer decal. Any thoughts? Eric #3,182

Terry, I believe the NTL commented on this in a prior thread (within the last two years)... My recollection is that he uncovered original GM documentation stating the installation of the decals was NOT included in the normal dealer prep reimbursement and dealers either did it as a courtesy or charged extra for the installation service and that's why there's a minor deduction for pace cars presented for judging with the decals installed....

            Jack -

Same issue on '67 and '69 Camaro Pace Car convertibles - installation of the Pace Car decals was NOT part of "normal dealer prep"; if the customer wanted them installed, he either paid an additional fee to the dealer or installed them himself.

It may be true that Chevrolet didn't pay, but the Pace Cars were a big advertising draw in the showroom prior to the Indy 500. As such, an undecalled car was less a draw than a decalled car. I heard of one guy who bought three, but was told they would not be released to him until after the 500 as they were to be displayed in the showroom until then. The value to the dealer was more than the cost of installing decals, I'm sure, in the interst they geenrated in the showroom.

This is especially true after stories of ones selling for $50,000 and up circulated.

                It's such a minor issue...

a whopping 10 points out of 4500 possible that I can't imagine why we're even talking about it! The NCRS standard is pretty clearly written...

"Cars are to be judged to the standard of vehicle appearance, and as equipped at the time and point of final assembly by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Coporation. Presentation for judging is to be in the condition normally associated with that of a orvette which has undergone the then-current standard Chevrolet Dealer New Car Preparation for delivery to a purchaser, exclusive of any dealer or purchaser inspired additions, deletions of changes."

Soooo, Pace Cars didn't come with the decals installed and their installation wasn't part of normal dealer prep. PERIOD.

If those in this thread think a 10 point 'hit' is an insurmountable issue, they should consider the poor SOB who's got a Corvette with a trim tag where the paint code reads "PRIME"... Yep, you have to show the car and have it judged in raw primer unless you want a full deduction on paint!!!
