Agree Wholeheartedly!
I went back through Michael's posts and found nothing but great, and very cordial information which ought to be preserved.
Michael ought to be an Honorary Member of this Discussion Board and NCRS. The Judging Guide should take advantage of Michael's information and experience.
I just wish that there was some way to reverse the current situation before we lose too many valuable members.

Another New Member in Support of Michael H
I lurked for two years, and took full advantage of Mike H, Joe L, Dick & Reba W, and others.
As this experience was so positive (I have an uncommon car, '69 L71/Auto), I joined NCRS a couple of months ago.
I find it disturbing that (for any reason) Michael Hanson's presence has been restricted from this board...when almost daily non-members jump on with questions that strain the technical mission of this board. I know, because I posted numerous times before I joined.

Well Said, Tracy
It seems to me that NCRS has given itself a very black eye by banning Mike Hanson.
I have learned a great deal from Michael's posts and photographs and I am sure that no one doubts his passion for Corvettes, especially 63's.
If NCRS wants to continue to enjoy the reputation it has developed as the best Corvette organization in the world it has a perfect opportunity here to revamp and standardize the revision process for ALL its Judging Manuals and to effectively communicate this information to its membership.
This Discussion Board cannot afford to lose the expertise and knowledge of any of its members.- Top

Re: Open letter to the NCRS leadership on Mike Han
Tracy
If you read my previous posts you know I am in agreement with you and others on the subject of Mr. Hanson. I have however been in e-mail contact with Roy on this subject and as he stated, he is not going to discuss this matter on this message board. Right or wrong I think we have to respect his stand on this issue. I also believe there is more to this issue than we are ever going to know. I also think in the near future we are going to see some changes to the way this board is run. Most other forums make you become a member before you can post messages, some offer a trail period to see if you like what you see, then you have to join, this board does not. I for one was very surprised to learn that someone as knowledgable as Michael was not a member.
I think the real solution is for Michael and Roy, they've known each other a long time, to sit down as mature adults and iron this situation out. Otherwise this club and this message board is going to suffer.

Re: Open letter to the NCRS leadership on Mike Han
I am very, very disturbed by what appears to have happened here, and I hope that the situation will be rectified quickly.
We have quite a few "personalities" who participate in this discussion board. I have never been offended by anything that Mike Hanson has posted, and I have greatly benefitted from the expert information he has provided. Maybe some others on this board or in the NCRS have been offended, but perhaps they are being oversensitive.
I think we need to remind ourselves that our first priority in the NCRS *should* be the cars themselves. That is, researching the original characteristics as best we can and incorporating that knowledge into our judging practices and the restorations we perform.
With that goal in mind, I am inclined to grant the greatest possible lattitude to those participants who are helping us move in that direction. So, even if Mike has, on occasion, ruffled some feathers, I think the overall benefit to our organization outweighs the other factors.
It is my impression that Mike's first love is for the cars themselves and for true originality, and this is what lies behind his efforts. For such a person it is probably quite painful to see original cars get altered just to comply with the JG, and some degree of exasperation is understandable and should be tolerated in that context.- Top

Re: Open letter to the NCRS leadership on Mike Han
I agree with the observation you mention. The judging manual is basicly a guide. But, it should be understood that there is still very much to be learned about the production changes during a model year. We should also accept that there is much unknow about these cars and WILL NEVER BE KNOWN. I encourage anyone to trust their own judgement and look at as many cars as possible during a restoration. Decide whether you want to restore it to the standard of a judging manual for points or your own standard based on what you think is correct (based on observation and research). In the mean time, we need to continue to update and improve the judging manuals for each year car. Also, we should respect each others standard of restoration and promote the hobbie and have fun as much as possible. Just my hummble opinion, terry- Top
