I am considering attending this event this year and would appreciate some opinions from those who have gone to it in past years.

First of all, I've never been to it. However, from all that I've heard it's a great event and it's definitely on my list of Corvette events to get to sometime soon. I try to limit myself to a "reasonable" number of events per year because I find that I suffer from "burnout" if I "over-indulge". The 2 events that are on my list for the the "near-term" future are NCRS Winter Meet in Florida (not this year, but maybe next year) and the Mid America event of which you asked about.
One of the things that I really like about the Mid-America event is that they have first class entertainment there of the genre that most folks into older Corvettes like. Two years ago, they had the Beach Boys there and it was a FREE concert as part of the FREE event (have any idea what it cost Mike Yaeger to bring the Beach Boys there? We're talking mid 6 figure numbers here). This past year they had another band and tickets for that had to be purchased. That's fine with me. I'll gladly pay for the right kind of band. I think that it adds another dimension to a Corvette event. I mean, you need something besides Corvettes and Corvette parts.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

The Yager Mid America Family put on a 1st class event attracting about 15,000 Corvettes and everyone enjoys themself.
VIP judges select their favorite car out of all that show up..and these cars get a special award.
No judging... just fun!!
Saturday night there is a major concert, the..My Garage Museum is open for all to see the Yager car collection and the town is a friendly place to stay.
Last year my daughter lost her purse. Ends up she left it at Applebees. The waitress turned it in and the manager held in the their safe for us to pick up.
First class Corvette show in a First Class place!
There is a special black tie charity event at the Yager home featuring Corvette artwork for sale. Space is limited and there is a donation required to attend..I stongly recommend it.

I attended my first Fun-Fest last year. It was well worth the effort. Thousands of Vettes. Good food and beverage. Free concert by REO Speedwagon.

I had heard that there was going to be a charge for the concert at the 2006 Funfest. However, if you were there and it was free, then I guess I was told incorrectly. That makes the event just that much more of a "bargain". As far as I'm concerned, though, if they charged for the concert that would be just fine with me.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment

Joe..I believe there was a charge per car to enter the concert grounds. Many of the people that live in Effingham and the surrounding area turn out for the concert.
A great time for all. REO Speedwagon was good this past year..but I really enjoyed the Beach Boys a couple years ago.
Not sure who is slated for 2007.
Hotel rooms can be challenging..so reserve early.Comment

I hired the Beach Boys in 1998 for a black-tie Karmanos Cancer Institute Charity event we held in the Viper Plant, and the tab was $280,000 (nine years ago); not cheap, but TERRIFIC!Comment
