    valve covers

    Hello All,

Does anyone know a good product to polish aluminum valve covers? Iv'e been working on them with a rag and mothers aluminum polish and they look better but still not real good. I was hoping for maybe something I can spray on instead of using a toothbrush in those tight fins.
    Thanks
    John #43736

    Re: valve covers

When you 'polish' factory original cast aluminum valve covers, you wind up removing their 'as cast' surface skin which experienced judges routinely detect as an originality issue. So, you're on a teeter totter trying to recover condition points at the expense of sacrificing originality points...

Cleaning off dirt and grease with ordinary carb cleaner and then brightening the underlying aluminum finish chemically with something like the aluminum version of Naval Gel and a SOFT tooth brush is about as much as you can do without sending the covers out for a 're-skinning' restoration.
