I have a 69 390/427 with a water pump I can't ID from existing or archive posts, so hope somecan here can help. The only markings can find on the pump are 8982-1 right below a "W" enclosed in a diamond on the front of the casting. the rear of the pump looks just like the photo and exploded diagram in the overhaul manual. The car has a service replacement engine. I strongly suspect an aftermarket pump, but can't find any other identifying marks. It needs a replace/rebuild and I can get a real replacement(for a lot more $$ than than a rebuild job on this one) if this does not warrant keeping an aftermarket part..Thanks...joe

Re: Water pump ID
Hi John.
Thanks for the interest and assistance. Can you tell me how to get on touch with Mr. Mock? I also have a couple of other related questions and I hope you'll pardon my ignorance in this: What is considered a "correct replacement"? It is an original factory part salvaged from another car or does it suffice to have a repro with the correct stampings? I am not adverse to spernding SOME additional money for an original part but some of these are a little pricey compared to a new or repro part. I was amazed at the low cost of the rebuild! It was quoted at $40-$60, parts (bearing and seals) included! Thanks again and have a terrific holiday season. deepest regards...joe
PS: I thought I posted this response earlier, but I must have messed up, since it got lost somewhere, probably due to a loose nut between the chair and the keyboard...- Top

You can reach Bill Mock at (918) 333-0748, or mockauto@aol.com; he'll have the casting number pump you need. It will be a rebuilt GM pump with the correct casting number and configuration, not a reproduction (I'm not aware of anyone making reproduction water pumps). Yet.- Top
