C3 washer cover

My 72 wiper washer cover has a small melted spot on it where it seems a light bulb got too hot while working on the car. I have look at what is called "exact reproductions" and they are black. Mine is a dark gray. Can anyone clarify what is correct?

Jeff,
The cover on my 1 owner 71 appears to be black. It seems to be the same material and color as the Astro Ventilation ducts that are under each end of the dashboard.

Jeff my original owner 70 has a wiper cover damage similiar to what you have described. It is at the front facing the ignition shielding. I know how mine happend, not from a drop light, but from using the windshield wiper washers about 30 years ago. The windshield wipers have continued to always work great on high or low. I bought a new washer assembly piece about 20 years ago to replace it that has a the cover. One day I may get around to replacing it.

Here's the orignial one on my 1970. Very faded and fragile.
It's hard to tell but I suspect that it was originally black.
