Back in on September 26, 1982 I was riding through our neighborhood in Paradise Valley, AZ and saw this amazing site in our neighbors driveway... The new Corvette. Not having ever seen one before I was blown away. I remember thinking that it looks like the new Trans Am... I told my father about it and he and I drove over in our 62 to compare the two. Turns our the car was there to take some promotional pictures for PPG. We asked if they wanted to use our 62, but we were told. "Wrong glass manufacturer!" Anyway these photos sat in an album for 24 year and I just happened to run accross them. I wonder were this one is now? Eric #3,182

HI Eric, I have a May 83 Corvette. Common knowledge is that there is just one '83 model that is on display at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. But mysources from GM say that is not true. Supposedly there are two more stashed away. Not all original though. Nice photos. Thanks, JohnComment

Refresh my memory..did the new style 84 Corvette debut in April/May 83 or 84?
I talked to the original plant manager of the bowling green plant this summer and he commented there were no '83 models.
Maybe its a matter of semantics...and not the calendar...but it is curious that he would say this.
Maybe he was referring to no 1983 Corvettes of the 82 body design!

The 84's began during or after 1/1983. The car in the picture was made before 9/82. The 83 was late because of the radical changes and the delays in development. I think the problem was the Fed's would not let you have two different model years built in a given Jan. Chevy delayed until after 1/83 and started the 84's early to avoid costly certification for a short run of 83s. Several Corvette model years had this same problem: 54 (New Plant) started very late 53 and 56 started 1/56. Luckly in 81 the started BG early on the 81s so 82s would not be delayed. We had a friend who took delivery of his 84 in Feb/83 His was the first 84 deloiverd in the Phoenix area. It's serial number was below #50 Blue/Blue F51 Bose. He gave me several rides in it. Blew me away. Night and day over his 80 he traded for it. EricComment
